Cchase
Is this a bad thing? Far left hole had some oil come out when I removed the bolt. I am taking the water pump off to fix a gasket leak. Does the bolt block off an oil channel? Thanks, C
western
Which engine ? if it's a 2.5N/A diesel then in parts book the water pump fixings look to be all bolts. on my Defender spec 200tdi that hole has a long stud for timing case & water pump. IIRC it does screw into a hole that has oil on the block side. as the stud did have oil traces on it during my strip/rebuild back in Nov last year. Cchase
Thanks, Ralph. Yes the engine is a 12J. Turns out that After I put the new gasket on the water pump continued to leak out of the weep hole. Time for a new pump. This one was only two years old with not many miles on it. Are water pumps a short lived item? Thanks, Colin
DC_
When I did timing belt last year I was advised to do water pump too as it’s seen as a “serviceable item” so I’m guessing they don’t have a great life span. 😊👍
western
Should last longer than 2 years, my 200Tdi pump is way over 2 years old, IIRC it's a Airtex make came from my local LR parts supplier via Allmakes.
reb78
My 200tdi weeps oil along that stud as well. I will fix it when i next do the timing belt - probably a dab of loctite on the threads where they go into the block.

reb78
I think my water pump was the one that was on the engine when i fitted it 100k miles ago. Dont know how long it'd been on there before that.
