Managed to knock this up today ,

SAM_2964.JPG.30829029798d23213736162639cb60b1.JPG

needs a good sand up , was a bugger to weld gaps every where as had to bend and move it so you can get it in . Next part is to weld a piece on the back so it fits snug in the heater box opening with some thin closed cell foam round the edge to seal it , so no more silly foam seals and should make it easier to fit hopefully .

Been looking at what to cover the panels in the dash in , and I bought some thin black rubber sheet , but I wanted it grey . So I came up with the idea gluing on the rubber , sanding it with a scotch pad , spraying it with etch primer , because I liked that shade of grey , then clearcoating it and it came out like this ,

not bad shame you can't really see the colour . So next up was to finish the heater box tunnel , so here's a picture run through ,

looks a bit rough but a good clean up and voila ,

SAM_2995.JPG.37759605cb466844f9dfaff8276fda1a.JPG

then when trying to fit it I realised that the shroud on the heater box need to be removed so I knocked this up ,

will rivet it on in the normal place , I'll put foam round the heater box opening so when it's all bolted up it should seal tight and be easy to fit . Next up was the "Y" connector for the ducting ,

will make a bracket to bolt onto the welded one and then to the dash plate , and finally all painted ,

SAM_3002.JPG.d04e6188a444fb3fee37688fea1fa7ea.JPG

will assemble it in the next day or too .

SAM_3011.JPG.e04d2ddb72ae0dd39d4a971fed2a30ed.JPG

it seems nice and snug and sealed but time will tell there's no movement , next up the heater ducting which went in nicely ,

SAM_3021.JPG.a3798309c0ebf5916f5bbeb525e5346b.JPG

then the bit I've been dreading THE CENTRE CONSOLE , the trimmer I'd asked to do it was very busy and I forgot to contact him and when I did he was booked but said he'd try and fit me in but not heard anything and I really need it done so had a go myself ,

SAM_3023.JPG.c0f51a9ce9a8ed2c5a0beae907563f8c.JPG

and then made the lid ,

SAM_3024.JPG.c25decf29452d5275833c0a379b901e3.JPG

it's not come out to bad for a complete novice , one side looks better than the other due to using a heat gun . Once I started using that the job became 100 times easier . So there we are just assembly left which I might do tomorrow then the dash is complete .

cheers Ian

Thank you, I use AS trim , it’s a closed cell foam here’s a pic ,image.thumb.jpg.6d6dea76245221d3e33b1c382e47e88a.jpg

image.thumb.jpg.b794d9179dec048dbf244496f82158f3.jpg

it’s not cheap but holds its shape well and 4 way stretch vinyl. I managed to get a roll of slight second for about £100 got loads left to do the door cards when I get to that bit .

Sorry for not answering sooner but I've been taking a break , I've got a bit fed up with being under the truck all the time so I've took a step back and took stock and made a few decisions . I will be finishing this soon and it will go up for sale , someone in the family wants it so hopefully I will be able to use it if not then someone else , I'll be keeping the 110 and doing the BMW M57 engine conversion but at a leisurely pace and I'm buying a small van to use for work , I can't be doing with working on to trucks all the time it's getting to the point where it's not enjoyable anymore . So bare with me it will be finished shortly as I've only the wiring left to do .

cheers Ian

It's a big shame that you won't profit from all the work you've done, especially as that dash looks like it'll turn out really nice, but fully understand your decision.

It can feel like these cars make work for you to do after a while.

Hi all , not updated for a while , wasn’t happy with some of my trimming so I sent it to a bloke I’ve used before in Stafford and I got it back yesterday. It hasn’t taken him this long to do, I’ve been faffing about with wiring and other stuff,

so hopefully will have it all back together soon.

 Cheers Ian.
