Thoughts and musings on the new defender

I must say it’s not the first time I’ve heard of defender doors not opening or closing when the suspension is fully twisted up. It was also something I remember from a ride round the LRE ramp setup in an L322 that they commented the defender can’t open its doors on the axle twister parts. I also know they had issues in the past with cherry picker conversions as where the chassis flexes and was then presented with a very solid mounting of the cherry picker, it would eventually crack.

Sure, but the first time I experienced this was in 2008 on a 110 double-cab, changing tyres - I tried to get into the car to get my wallet was was unable to open the doors, much to the amusement of the techs, and my own surprise.

And a few times subsequently, when off-roading.

Mind you, when I'm saying cross-axle, this is the kind of thing I'm referring to, not driving around flat muddy fields with maybe one wheel a few cm higher/lower than the others - we have proper off-road tracks here ;)

So yes, I can see beyond 'it'.

What a great example, you can see how little twist there is in that photo by how straight the door shut lines are.

Does look good: I look forward to a few future videos - and posted lap-times -  of it on trials towing a 3.5-ton triple-axle flatbed round Nürburgring.

[For my daily-driver  - I don't want crazy offroad axle-articulation - to me the important thing is can I tow a laden trailer at legal-speed-plus-20% for 500 miles in comfort and without losing my hearing]

Sounds like you need a luxury SUV Tanuki!  Land Rover make lots of those !  In fact they don’t make anything else ...

I found it absolutely hilarious to see that bloke standing on the back tyre to access the roof rack - while leaning on the ladder provided for that purpose!!

That aside, these are the first genuinely "in-use" pictures I've seen.  Disconcertingly, it looks dated already.

Evidently either too badly positioned or too awkward to use.  Either way, it suggests it’s a useless accessory.
