Haha - I cant see Fred Dibnah strapping his ladders to the new one with a makeshift frame of scaffold poles... 🙂

What a horrible thought! Don't say that, you'll give Gerry nightmares!

This entirely sums up my thoughts - the new 'Defender' is for netiher the Farmer or the Countryman and nor is it for general industrial use so therefore ignores the core principles of Defender. It's a nice car, but it's not a Defender.

Erm well it might involve curtailing "countryman" into a shorter word :hysterical:

Its amazing to me how gullible the audience can be if they enjoy a particular brand. The brand can do no wrong.

I call it brand blindness.

Form over function.

The very antithesis of Land Rover.

They'll have done their research, and I'm sure it'll sell. I quite like it 😳

Let me ask - if it wasn't branded 'Defender', would that be ok?

If it was branded "Discovery" that would be much better.

I think it will sell. Well initially, but for how long? And more importantly at what cost of other models in the LR line up? I know a few people lined up to get the new Defender. Each and everyone of them is trading in either an RRS or Disco for it. I don't know a single person trading in an old Defender for a new one.

And yes, completely it is the wrong name on the wrong vehicle. Done for only one reason - marketing and selling out the brand and pissing off the loyal following.

Since they can't really sell them right now and a dealer launch is impossible, I think the best thing they coiuld do is to give the sales vehicles to response units to assist the emergency services or delivering food etc. to high risk people?

That must have upset Gerry, using them as utility vehicles.

They’ve given all the press cars out to groups like the Red Cross etc.
