Tunatime
Hi all have a problem with my discovery it's a 93 v8 3.5 efi. So the diff lock works makes a good clunk when I move left to right vice versa and light comes on on the dash but when I push the shifter fwd nothing engages I have looked underneath and all linkages are free and moving shaft to top of transfer case is moving in sync but no clunk or noise to indicate a solid engagement. Do I have a eternal transfer case problem? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
bishbosh
When you push it forwards can you get drive? Do you move forwards in low range?

dave88sw
On the top of the transfer box is a short rectangular housing held down with 6 bolts, the high/low selector arm enters through the end of the housing and a little finger pushes the selector inside the transfer box to shift ratios. If you remove that housing, inside is a grub screw that often comes loose, attaching the selector "finger" to the selector rod. The result of which is that everything looks like it is moving properly externally but nothing happens inside the transfer box when you go to shift. You can see the hole where the grub screw should be. They need to be put in with plenty of threadlock. With an autobox, it can seem deceptively fast crawling in low, but you'll notice it once the box shifts up. Not questioning you, but I've seen it happen, setting of with a heavy trailer, wondering why the box wouldn't shift to 3rd once on open road. In fact it was still in low (4th) from maneuvering...
