landroversforever Posted June 4, 2019 Author Share Posted June 4, 2019 I needed a hand to lift the toolboxes into place, so I turned my attention back to the end cupboards. This time to the top work surface/dumping ground. These are the little brackets that were in the laser cutting video, the little ones it cuts at the start. Sometime prior to this I borrowed a 90Degree drill and marked, drilled and tapped the box frame ready for these. Balance the top on a foot long bit of 8x2" timber in the vice and then balance the cupboard frame on the top. Bolt up the little brackets to the frame, align and clamp, Add a few tacks and then remove the frame. Then weld them up. Nice fresh tungsten for each set of 4, and around 35-40A did these proud. landroversforever Posted June 5, 2019 Author Share Posted June 5, 2019 Time for a test fit . First box is the original bottom box, so needed the castors removing. This was fun as the box is still full of tools! But it was done and then lifted into place. Handle removed and the other, empty, box was put in place. Hard to believe that the contents of the second box filled 3 tesco crates! No matter how confident you are in the dimensions, a test fit is always a sigh of relief! So I plonked the end cupboards on. Once lifted off I could continue welding the subframes on. Firstly the short-side welds marked out and buzzed on. Then the long sides. It might look a bit overkill but I mis-ordered the steel. A chap at work did the deflection calcs for me with S355 which I asked for, I then cocked up and bought S235. With the S355 uniformly distributed load of 1100Kg gives a max deflection of 1.3mm per beam, so this should stiffen it up a bit if I ever get near the max capacity. So Sunday night (2nd) I commandeered a van from work (thanks again to them!), and loaded it with this pile of parts destined for ProCoat, the powder coaters a stones throw from the Newbury showground in Curridge. Clean run down the A34 after work (a rarity!!!) and they were dropped off - excited to see the outcome!! I also took nearly 600KG of scrap to the yard down the road from work at lunchtime so it was a good day for workshop tidying! 5 days or so and I should have it back Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Most annoying as I missed a call from the powder coaters to say my stuff was ready. Double bummer as the other work vans were both in use all of this week. Cue a call to a mate with a van and this morning was on . Having seen the quality of the stuff that Professional Coatings turns out, I was rather excited! Behold the beauty The quality is fantastic. It's come out exactly as I wanted it. I knew it would cover up the TIG welds, but it shows that the TIG has left a lovely crisp edge of the holes. The other thing worth pointing out about these guys and their attention to detail are the threads. 16 in the castor plates and 4 in the top.
