Discovery 2 has to be purged to start?

Hi, I have a land rover discovery 2 TD5 and every time i want to start it i have to purge it to get it going. Previously I have change the fuel pump and the copper o rings on the injectors however the problem still occurs. If i don't purge the system then it will crank and but wont start. Once I've got it started it ill idle for around 2 or 3 minutes and then cut out. If I hold it at a 1000 revs then it wont cut out until it goes back to idling. Any idea on what the problem could be?

Also didn't the D2 have a recall on some fuel pipes rubbing on each other and creating a hole in the pipe?

Yes, but that was the high pressure "green pipe" and a leak would be more obvious I think.
