Where is the cheapest winch motor

Recommended Posts

For goodness know how many years I’ve been rebuilding an M8000 winch - it stalled because it needs a new motor and because I don’t really have a use for it. Given that last point it seems daft to pay for a bowmotor or a genuine warn item - is there’s anything cheap and cheerful (inc secondhand) so I can just get it back together?

What's wrong with the motor? Electric motors are normally pretty simple beasts and usually rebuildable. Might be as simple as some new brushes.

I don’t really understand the motor - but it’s been full of water - I did my best to clean it up and when I connected it up, it smoked.

If the windings aren't burnt out then chances are it's a simple fix.

I'd try pulling it apart first and assessing the damage. Measure the impedance through the windings and you should get an ohm or two.

You've got nothing to lose by it.

Bob may have a motor lying around (tends to swap them out for hydraulic) so if it ever happens could swap bumper for motor?

I don’t know what the prices are like, but Goodwinch sell the plain can type motors that come on the more basic winches. Might be worth a look.

That would work for me 😊

I’d actually forgotten about that 😳😮

I bought one of these a few years ago but when it turned up there was a bow 1 motor in the box.

I've sent him a message to see if he has anything lying around in the yard.

I have a genuine Warn motor for an M8000, rebuilt some time back. It's yours if you can get it collected form Somerset

I am planning to be in Somerset briefly in early September and then heading back up the road, would be happy to transport if logistics suit.

If that doesn’t work, and it can get to the Oxford area, I can get it to the Peterborough show for onward movement.

Equally I suspect I'll be heading up north again - cost an extortionate £77 to get the tick repellent for the two dogs so might as well make the most of the next 3 months protection
