I need to be able to identify either:

a) that there are no duplications in a column of text strings

or.B) how many duplications there are in a column of text strings

anyone got any ideas?

PS: Not O/T part of my new electronic challenge scoring system

PPS: Happy New Year :D

PPPS: did you know you can't type the letter 'b' followed by an ) without getting an emoticon?

Quickest way -

Select the whole spreadsheet

Data

Sort

Choose you column of text strings

OK

Your column will now be in alphabetical order - any duplications will be together.

Hmmm, but I could have 1200 strings and only 2 duplicates - not going to be easy to spot

Thanks anyway!

I'm with "sort" but in this case I would also define a colum that prints a "*" when a cell in the sorted list matches the cell above it.

Makes it easy to spot.
