ianmayco68
Hi all, just looking into my smoke issue on the defender 200tdi trying to undo the bolts in the thermostat housing and all 3 broke off , I’ve drilled them out but is it best to re tap them out or drill out to 6mm and fit a nut and bolt to stop it happening again . Thoughts please. Cheers ian
Gazzar
Helicoil, and a suitable anti seize compound? I think the coil inserts are less prone to corrosion than the aluminium castings.
western
Helicoil inserts are normally stainless steel based.
ianmayco68
Cheers both , think I’ll leave the helicoils if there stainless . It’s not been a good weekend apart from hurting myself on numerous occasions, then this happened and to top it all the crankshaft gear is stuck on and 2 of the bolts on my puller broke off in the threaded holes on the gear , so waiting for a mate to come over this morning with some heat to try that , but it’s all good fun and I’m definitely getting drunk later at a barbecue we’re going to.
