chubby5
Looking for help! I converted my 1986 2.5 na defender to a TDI with a Discovery 200 TDI engine about 10 yrs ago. now I am moving to Spain to retire, i am rather attached to my 110 having bought it direct from the Military 14 yrs ago and done many modifications to it. I have started converting to left hand drive. but have come across a problem that the steering column and the Turbo clash. The only way round this I can see is change the manifold and turbo to a defender one which are hard to find. Anyone have another solution or parts for sale
Pappa Smurf
Look at what LHD 300tdi defenders do.
daveturnbull
Rotating the turbo and fitting a straight shaft (without the collapsible joint) is one solution. It's tight, but it works.
hurbie
on my 110 LHD , they removed the collapsible joint , and fitted a straight shaft . if you want i can make some pictures tomorrow

western
looking at the 110 parts book, it doesn't list a one piece or collapsible shaft for left hand drive vehicles see page 448 in http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/parts_books/110/5_axles_suspension_steering_p398-471.pdf even lrparts.ru doesn't say if any are LHD or RHD http://cat.lrparts.ru/?category=118540
hurbie
i believe the shaft is the same for LHD/RHD , on my car they removed the collapsible joint and welded the 2 remaining bits together , reinforcing with a piece of tubing. not my favorite solution , but as you say defender manifolds are hard to find. Mo Murphy
19j manifolds are relatively plentiful though ... Mo

Mo I think the studs are in a different place on the 19J. I was thinking of putting a defender 200tdi inlet manifold on my 19J for intercooling but Ralph pointed out this problem. Mo Murphy
... or does the tdi just have more studs ? Got to be worth a punt to find out. All you need is a manifold gasket monkie 😊 Mo
western
9 studs on 19J manifolds, 11 studs on 200tdi manifolds
Retroanaconda
There is also a consideration to be had in the fact that the shaft is collapsible for a reason.

Landy7
I have a military 110 LHD with a disco 200TDI that I've fitted myself 2 years ago. Not sure how I tackled this issue but will take some pics.

There is a big (strong) circlip that you need to remove. Pipework might need some reworking afterwards.
monkie
I'd get some new tubing for your waste gate actuator while you are there. It looks a bit cracked.
