Late model L322 or early L494

Looking to get back into a Range Rover after previously having a 54 reg 4.4V8 and was wondering what would be considered the safer, more logical option in terms of reliability and usability; late model L322 4.4TDV8 or an early L494 Range Rover Sport 3.0 SDV6? I looked at late model Discovery 4's as well but I have near enough talked myself out of that one!

Budget is up to around £27-30k, but obviously if the better option is cheaper then all the better!

Cheers guys

The L494 is a better more refined car but there were some issues with the early 3.0 engines. Late L322's are very good value for money now (not so good for me as I bought mine 4 years ago when they were not!!) and there don't seem to be manay issues with the engines.

£30k is getting close to L405 territory where you could have the best of both worlds - V8 diesel and a full size RR

Have you driven either? the late L322's are worlds apart from the one you had. Adaptive suspension loads of tourque and a 8 speed box turned it into a different car.

If I am honest the best place to ask this question is probably the www.fullfatrr.com forum.

I would be warry of the V6 diesel. they have a design fault that means they snap cranks. Two friends with Discoverys in the village have had this happen - one in warranty, one not...…

I agree with @L19MUD - the 4.4TDV8 with 8 speed box is an amazing machine - I love my 61 plate FFRR. :)
