Gazzar
The rings were easy enough, once I figured the oil control ring assembly. They were all in spec, except the oil control which the gap was too large. I expect the design is different to original.
Gazzar
The trick it to put the zig zag ring in the groove first. Then the lower ring and upper ring. Gaps opposite the pin.
Gazzar
The ring pliers was useful. Clever thing.
Gazzar
Piston assembled, I need to check the gap positioning. The chrome ring had no taper, but the black ring did.

Gazzar
Then it was the bearings, I had to swap one over to get clearance on the with shell pinch test. But there were all within spec, just.

Gazzar
Lots of super sticky oil, followed by torquing, all bar number five.

Gazzar
Fitting the pistons was easy. The ring compressor worked a treat. Lots of lube, and most things fit.
Gazzar
The Tee seals were a disaster. I did this ages ago, using a steel drinks can. All cans now are alloy. It didn't work. Â
Gazzar
I found smoke m some old seals, unused, and fitted those. That worked, but will they seal?
Gazzar
After the pistons were done, I stuck the cam in. Lots of the black paste.
Gazzar
I need a thicker thrust washer, even the new one is too thin. It's only 0.01 out, so I can live with it.
Gazzar
Tappet slides next. I changed two of the sliders, on account of the two rotten followers, and all the followers. All locked with new screws. Â
Gazzar
Here's a question: This is a reconditioned engine. Can I stamp it with a new number? Say, the date? Or the military registration?
Gazzar
The timing chain is next, but I can't go too far with it, as the instructions from Roland at ACR are quite specific, and need the head to be fitted. Â
Gazzar
I mean, it looks right, but I'm not locking anything until I've the head on.
Gazzar
All I got done on the head tonight was a thorough clean. I've also noticed a lot of junk in the water galleries, I'm tempted to put the power washer nozzle in there once the engine is assembled. Gazzar
I think I'll change the valve seals, there's a set in the gasket pack. What do I need to clean the spark plug threads, is a quick brush with the Dremel enough? But once that's done I can fit the head.
Bowie69
Cut a slot in the thread of an old plug and run it down them.

Ex Member
For the tee seals, you need to bolt or clamp down a wedge block to guide them in without cutting. The manual shows them. They are easy to make yourself.
Gazzar
As I say, the shim steel works, but I could find any steel. Â Regardless, they're in now, and undamaged. The 110 manual didn't cover the wedges, I'll look up the series ROM to see what you mean. Â I'm going to look again at the cam, see exactly what meets with the aim of getting more clearance at the thrust point.
Gazzar
Or, should I say, less clearance!
