Hypothetical Tug o'War - who'd win?

I have done it back in 1994 . My mate had a h reg 200 TDi 90 and i had a Range rover 2 door with a disco 200 TDi engine and gearbox.

We did it on grass/ mud and them on tarmac. The 90 won on grass mud becuse it ran mud tyres and the rangie was on road tyres. But the rangie did well and the 90 had to really stuggle to get the rangie moving. But on the tarmac the rangie pulled the 90 all over the place.

It was shown that the 90 had more problem with the weight than the rangie did

Doesn't the Disco 200tdi have slightly fewer horses than the Def one as well? - not sure it's enough to make a difference, though...

As long as the vehicle can spin its wheels in 1st low on whatever surface it makes no odds whether 100hp or 1000 unless you get into the "equal and opposite reaction" theory in which case the ability to pebble-dash a small village in seconds would be quite useful :)

High powered 2 stroke trail bikes are a good example of when equal and opposite reaction sometimes works in deep mud!
