blowmeover
Sounds like your battery isnt holding charge, or you fitted the wrong starter motor, do you have a multimeter?
miketomcat
I had a 200 that did similar, what you don't want to hear is it eventually snapped a cam. I suspect the cam bearings had turned thus cutting the oil to the cam. The other thing that backed this up was a flickering oil pressure light at tickover when warm. Maverik
Where did the mew starter come from, is it a Bosch/ Velao or "a.n. other"?
Green200tdi
3rd starter the other 2 were different seller got money back as were recons, my original starter turns it over fires it up straight away but kicks out to soon, but as cold set in this year and original battery died got harder, then was jump starting every time wanted to go anywhere, photo of new starter see part number just a thought wonder if new head gasket giving me better compression might have something to do with it 🤔

Maverik
I've not had great experiences with non branded starters, you can get enough bits on ebay you can rebuild genuine ones easily enough. After installing a non branded one and running it and it failing going back to a valeo unit i then realised how poor the non brand was from the beginning, it never turned the engine over as strongly as the valeo unit. blowmeover
What power rating is the starter? There are two different kinds.
western
That new starter is the same part number that I fitted to my 200tdi a few months ago, it spin the engine over very well.

FridgeFreezer
You can prove the problem by running jumpleads direct from battery to earth point to cut out any dodgy earths.
Green200tdi
New earth cable and connector 2 meters so enough to go to bell housing
blowmeover
You will need one to the chassis as well, I have both on mine, I usually buy mine already made up, crimping big terminals like that never worked out for me!
Mo Murphy
You just need a big crimper or a chum with one 😉 Mo
Stellaghost
I now have a terminal crimper but prior to that I used to use an engineer's v block and punch always worked very well regards Stephen
western
My battery to gearbox earth cable is the Factory fitted item, the engine to chassis earth I bought ready made from Halfords, it was much thicker than the factory original.
