RobertCu
Hi. I'm looking to convert my 110 to power steering. I have heard some comments about D1parts being used but can't find any clear instructions. My 110 is a 1985 3.5 v8. I'm told it's a stage 1. It's sits on coils and have the air activated diff lock. Can I just swap in the d1 v8 parts ? Does it require a different steering column ? Thanks in advance.
smallfry
If it IS a 110 and on coils, it is NOT a stage 1. It should have a 5 speed gearbox. The diff lock is an aftermarket accessory The Discovery V8 parts will be a straight swap, and it does not need another column. The steering box drop arm is different to the Defender type, but a lot of people do this as an "upgrade"
western
A Stage 1 V8 is on leaf springs, whereas all 90/110/defenders are on coil springs. add the year & model details which will help others give you good & correct info.

RobertCu
Hi guys. Thanks. As per above it's a 1985 4sp 110. It's on coils, disc front brakes, v8 , 4sp and vacuum difflock. The truck was bought by the NZ govt so I have the history of work done and all of the above is as new I think. Hoping I can bolt on the D1 v8 PS system. Thanks in advance. Snagger
My understanding is that the steering box will be a direct swap with no need to do anything to the steering column. If you source the parts from a Discovery, you could swap the drop arm from the boxes, but it seems preferable to also swap the drag link to the Discovery type and retain the Discovery drop arm as the rod end ball joint is far easier to replace on the Discovery version. You’d need the pump, hoses, reservoir, pulleys (possibly including crank shaft pulley if it has a dedicated pulley that is missing from your engine) and any brackets and belt tensioners.
