Uj's

Need to source new UJ's for my (originally D Reg 2.5NA 90) vehicle, and i've come up against conflicting Part numbers, the Defender Bible says its: RTC3346, is this right? as i've also been quoted RTC3291.

Craddocks says that RTC 3291 supercedes RTC3458 but quotes RTC3346 as being "UNIVERSAL JOINT FOR PROPSHAFT LAND ROVER 1964 TO 1985 & ALL R/ROVER >1986 & 101 F/CONTROL"

I'm sure there are many of you out there who know the part number off the top of your heads what with the number of suspension lifters out there.... :P

thanks in advance

Microcat tells me these numbers---------------

RTC3346 upto VIN CA252578

RTC3458 from VIN CA252579 to IA612404

STC4807 from VIN IA612405

doesn't list RTC3291 in Microcat or EPC

my 110 1987 on parts cat says RTC 3458 all 110 variants

again No RTC3291 listed

hope that helps :D

I only know of two sizes of uj fitted to series and defenders. One is 2 15/16" across the cups (RTC3291), the other is 3 3/16" across the cups (RTC3346). There might well be other equivalent part numbers to these, but AFAIK there's only the two sizes.

Mostly said already but....

There are only 2 sorts fitted to most 90/110s. RTC3346 on old vehicles and RTC3458, the later one (RTC3458) definitely fits all the 300s etc and Td5s up to the end of the 2001 model year but I am not sure when it was introduced, probably late 80s. The later 300 type one is a bit smaller than the old ones but v difficult to tell apart unless you have them side by side on a bench.

Only 2002 model year and on have a much larger front prop UJ which will be the STC4807 Ralph refers to - but I think the rear prop on the newest vehicles still uses the smaller RTC3458 UJ, quite why they strengthened the front and not the back is anybody's guess

Never come across RTC3291 but I suspect that may be an old number for RTC3458 rather than the other way round as I think the ones we have at work are all under RTC3458.

By the way RTC3458 also fits the PTO shaft on a 1980-ish Jones Mk 13 hay baler, how about that for a bit of useless information
