Hi,

the 07 Defender will have a derivitive of the MT-82 6 speed gearbox similar to that used in the latest 6 speed transits,

I have just had a transit box delivered but cannot get reverse easily,

could a transit driver please advise where reverse is on the shift pattern please,

I just did a quick search around the web for that gearbox, loads of news on how the factories have doubled the production in readyness for the LR release, but no technical details! :rolleyes:

Had an unoffical chance to sit in the new 07 defender before Xmas, this was the pre-production one that had been taken for a test drive to try out the new heater.

Indeed it does have a 6 speed box. Just a damned shame about the new parcel shelf below the steering wheel, just got rid of the stupid air-con knee basher and they stick that in :-(

Proabably only applies to 6 footers though. Sorry does not answer your question but thought I'd have my twopence worth, while I have the chance. BTW the 110 is now a 7 seater ...hmmm...

This is (probably) not going to help one bit but Ill chip in anyway...... :D

Reverse on my 6 speed Corolla T-sport is far left through the 'gate' and then forward - right next to first. It has a 'helpful' (read annoying) beep from under the dash when in reverse a bit like an artic. - sales guy told me it was so you knew you were in reverse and not first :unsure: I thought the fact that the car went backwards rather than forwards would sort of have given the game away as to what gear you were in......

Right I'll get me coat......

Dave

It's where normal 1st is on most other boxes.

Peter

BTW I don't drive one, but my mate builds gearboxes for ford.

Do these boxes bolt to a normal LT230? Do you know what the ratios are?

I think it's a normal LT230..... looking at the brochure pictures i've seen of the cutaway chassis it looks like one.

ratios:

GFT MT-82 Gearbox

Main gearbox GFT MT-82

'07 Defender Transfer case

Sixth

0.742:1

Hi range: 1.211:1

Fifth

Direct

Lo range: 3.269:1

Fourth

1.223:1

Third

1.721:1

Second

2.839:1

First

5.443:1

That's a serious reduction in 1st, with the 1.2 lt230 and a set of 4.75 thats close to a 100:1 crawl ratio

Ratio's are 1st = 5.443

2nd = 2.839

3rd = 1.721

4th = 1.223

5th = 1.000

6th = 0.742

rev = 4.935

transfer ratio = 1.211 and 3.269

finally a good first gear, great for towing hill starts and offroading.

but imo 2nd is too big a gap and all the others to close.

but i'm no gearbox ratio designer.

at 66-1 1st low stock axles and cv's should snap like bread sticks.

hope you have lots of replacements in stock dave. should be on a winner

cheers serg
