dailysleaze
I have a Dremel 4000 that decided to just stop - apparently quite common and unrepairableĀ š¤ Any recommendations for a better quality equivalent, ideally that's compatible with Dremel attachments? davie
i would be very surprised if not repairable - cant remember which model we have but it got rebuilt by us easily and cheaply.Ā Ā Dremel are almost built to be repaired. Ā we got an exploded parts diagram off internet and just googled bits, was painless
dailysleaze
Ok good to know. It was my first impression on googling the problem - it basically stopped.
geoffbeaumont
Depending how old it is, Dremel also have a good warranty repair service.
Maverik
I went through a few Dremels, not all that hard wearing in my opinion. I got a Draper own branded thing - very similar butĀ cheaper and seems to have been much more robust, still going strong.

dailysleaze
Thanks all. 5 years old so out of warranty. Tried to fix myself by replacing the thermal fuse for Ā£2, but still doesn't work after that. So I bought a draper one. The lock nut is a loose fit so doesn't clamp the bits, but the one from the end of the Flexi adapter is better so I use that. Thought I'd have to return it but it's working out okay so far
Maverik
In think I might have used the chuck bits from the dremel on it.

I've killed 2 Dremmels so far.Ā Both just outside warranty, both 'unrepairable' according to dremmel.Ā Perhaps the older ones were easier to repair?Ā The failure in mine were the bearings which did not seem to be removable. I didn't buy a third - I figured, eventually a thread like this would appear and a grown-up would suggest something better!
