I did come here first as it was free 😂 I was going to get a few things done at a mechanic because I have just acquired the car and have a lot of questions and most importantly wanted some one who really knows there stuff to look it over. I wanted to get the a frame ball joint done as well. But I have have just got a vice and may also give that a crack myself. I have fixed most the niggling little things my self thanks to my new best friend on YouTube (Britannica restorations) but the more things I fix the more I fined that needs fixing I'm currently trying to identify my transmission it's definitely an lt77 or lt85 as reverse is next to 1st. It would make sence for it to be an lt85 but who knows what has been done to it over the last 30 Years. I have identified my transfer box its an lt230. But I can't match mach what looks like the serial number on my gear box I'll attach a photo. Iv done a little research on best oil to use in both transfer and gearbox on AULRU and every one seems to have a different opinion on the best oil to use. Maverik Posted July 29, 2020 Share Posted July 29, 2020 So for gearbox number location on a LT77 - see here - but post up the full spec of your vehicle is it V8, inline petrol, or diesel - this gives you a big clue as to what box it likely is. I think you'll quite honestly get as much info as you ask for on here, there is a mammoth amount of knowledge at your finger tips. Hi arjan the lt85 and Lt77 have reverse left of 5th.. it has the 3.9 isuzu 4db1 engine . I think it may have come with the lt95 originally if it's the original owners manual that I have in the car..had a good look on Ashcroft but couldn't quite get the info I needed but I may need to clean it up a bit and have a better look. garrycol Posted July 29, 2020 Share Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) If it is an 86 County then it originally had a LT85 but while unlikely I guess it could have been changed to something like a LT77 but is not likely with the 3.9 Diesel which never had the LT77. Take note that there are two variants of LT85, a solid case one and a 'split case' also known as the 'lightweight version. The former has a smooth casing and the latter a ribbed casing that bolts together down the centre line, hence being referred to as split case.' garrycol Posted August 11, 2020 Share Posted August 11, 2020 The mid 80s 110s in Australia had the 3.5 V8 or unlike elsewhere in the world, the Isuzu 3.9 4 cylinder diesel - to deal with the torque pulses of the diesel the solid case LT85 was used for both engines after the LT95 was replaced - the LT85 behind the diesel was still marginal and did not last long if misused. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
