Fortunately all were safe with minor damage to the house and the trailer and two written off wheelie bins. Glad you're OK! It is amazing how quickly it can go wrong. When working on the fuel system please all be very careful. We all know petrol is volatile but you don't realise how much so until something like this happens. FridgeFreezer Posted August 3, 2020 Share Posted August 3, 2020 I've only ever had to deal with a couple of workshop fires, I now keep several fire extinguishers around the place - my general rule is one by every exit. Managed to accumulate quite few extinguishers for free that were being rotated out of service from a commercial building by the fire contractors, once they reach an age (or change contracts) they just chuck them and replace with new as it's easier/cheaper than testing them. As soon as I realised it was out of control II moved the three L322's on to the road well away from it as they were initially parked in close proximity. Had a look at the trailer this morning and appart from the two tyres I knew about I was expecting brake cables and electrics to be burnt out. Electrics are gone but the brake cables and two tyres appear to be good. I only had the engine and gearbox to remove. Everything else I wanted is on the other P38 fortunately. I was clearing all the fluids so I could get it scrapped. I am very chilled most of the time however with hindsight I should have moved the trailer sooner and released the ratchet straps holding the car. Maybe even remove the car from the trailer. Eventually got the trailer cleared and tested as much as I could before trying in anger. Went to Crewe on Thursday to pick up a Toyota Corrolla for my neighbour as I considered this to be the best test before I loaded a Land Rover or Range Rover on it. Setting off we had the two offside wheels sticking every now and the. Took the trailer three miles and checked the wheels were turning and that the bearings were cool. They were touchable so we went a further 40 miles to our next check. Here the OS rear bearing was warm but everything else was good so we kept going to Southwaite services where we stopped for breakfast and to check everything again. Still one worry-some axle but not too worrying. Drove on to Crewe without difficulty and loaded up. Again the bearing was warm but no warmer than before. With the trailer loaded we headed back with a fill up at Haydock to check the load, get fuel and food before the lasts stage. Here the wheel was too hot to touch. We made the decision to press on and check it every hour. After an hour we were at Burton in Kendal Services but I decided to press on to Tebay as everything seemed on. When we got to Tebay all 4 wheels were cool and fine. Made the final run home without any issues. Decided to take the hub off today and everything was fine. The wheel was a little sticky to turn beforehand but did rotate. When off the brake cable while operating was not moving the shoes. The end result of the fire on top of my trailer is that I have to replace the wiring, which wasn't working anyway. Needed two new tyres, relaced one wheel bearing as a precaution and two new brake cables again as a precaution and because the bub was off anyway.
