perryrc1
Hi, just bought a 2003 discovery td5 and I’ve noticed on the clutch bite the engine wobbles a fair bit and on turning off does the same. When driving the clutch is fine not slipping, goes through the gears lovely and pulls like a train. Just wondering if it could be engine mounts or gearbox mounts? The car has done 106k Thanks
Maverik
Hi Perry and Welcome to the Forum. Td5's engine/transmission was quite softly mounted compared to a lot of other Land rovers before it. They do wear out, but you usually know about this due to vibration issues starting. Driving Td5's and Tdci's after driving a 200tdi I find it slightly disturbing as the engine and transmission do move a lot compared to the latter, you can see the gear stick move to the left when you rev the engine. I'd have a good look at the mounts and see if they look overly squashed - the engine mounts have a heat shield which usually has a decent bit of clearance around it, if this looks close or is touching any of the structure around it, I'd consider possible looking at changing them out. JohnnoK
What Maverik said, and or the gearbox mounts, just jack the transfer case slightly and you will see if they are good or not.
