Stellaghost
Picked this up last night from what I can gather it's a 9000i but I haven't a clue what vintage winch engage mechanism is stuck so gonna need a strip down but should be nice once sorted regards Stephen
Snagger
Yes, 9000i (the “i” stands for integrated, referring to the solenoid pack being encased in the bridge of the housing rather than having a separate casing that can be mounted away from the winch itself (usually in a black plastic box). I’ll be following - it’s the type I have, which I bought second hand from the owners of Protection and Performance and they had just serviced themselves, but I’ve not serviced it since (it has only been used a few times and has never been dunked or gotten muddy, so shouldn’t be too bad). Maverik
I have some experience with these Warn winches, we had one on the front of one of our Mountain Rescue vehicles, I stripped it after the clutch seized solid, on opening it was quite horrific how much water was in the gearbox and how little grease there was in there, the grease was also like wax, pretty unimpressed and not surprised that corrosion had happened, I re-filled it with some of the semi grease you use in superwinch husky gearbox's - at least it "wetted" the gears from time time when it ran. Have used them a lot in Forestry when they are in daily use , on Defenders, still get gunked up and seized ( woodchip is the worse for them ) not a fan, capstan winch better , with a 16mm rope. Stellaghost
If there was a society for the prevention of cruelty to winches I'd be reporting this one lol What a carry on getting welded feet bolts out succeeded once I hit on the right method As they were Centre popped Drilled to 6mm Threads then snapped away easily with some stiltsons Regards Stephen

Snagger
Any news on that end casting? I wonder if Warn can supply them. If not, fabricating one shouldn’t be the end of the world, unless the innards are very complex.
Stellaghost
I do have some news to the tune of £179 + vat, phoned d44 this morning and made some enquiries based on finding a part no warn 61543 which is a motor end cap for warn bic motor 25 dollars in america, d44 are telling me there are non in this country and that part no has been superceded so I politely declined ( they are going to see if they have a second hand one, but I think that will also be astronomically expensive ) gonna see what it costs to get one from America failing that a piece of aluminium billet off eBay for £25 and a couple of hours on the lathe regards Stephen
Snagger
I have a Chicago trip just before Christmas, and will be visiting the UK for the first week of January.
