Got a new tool trolley was my wife Christmas present to me, so why did I pay for it? Can't fathom that one New Rattle gun - Keilder, 750nm New Socket Set WERA Zyklop 1/2" with ratchet extension (really nice) New Compressor (don't ask) Hub puller Super cute 1/4 ratchets (now an addiction) Wheel bearing pullers Trestles Enough 3/8' sockets to fill a bucket A bloody great magnet (came as part of a job lot of panel hammers....) OH and 40 tiny little neodymium magnets - bought them to make by spanner racks moveable, however , little so and so's hold a kilo in weight, so spanner racks now permanently affixed (note to oneself -Do not put 4 magnets on each side of your spanner rack) New screwdrivers A dent pulling kit (cheap chinese copy of PDR one, but it works) OH when they say hot melt glue, they really mean hot - minor scars A new engine crane A cracking 12/24 battery charger/jump starter from Union Mart. Cost next to nowt but started a very cold 24v (it was -7c) digger Compression tester (petrol ones really don't like diesel engines) OH and 38 Winfield fishing reels (wife is really not amused at that - I blame the half bottle of Port and Ebay myself) My Bank Manager is looking forward to lockdown coming to an end. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

First lockdown mostly: 1Kg Jazzies/Snowies sweets 850g Cadbury bar Big set of Knipex circlip pliers (in/out/straight/90deg etc) Another 1Kg bag of jazzies 3Kg of jelly babies 48bar box of Caramac Lego Defender Lego Car transporter + extra car 1Kg of foamy bananas 36bar box of Daims mid-size vertical bandsaw popped up on facebook for the right money bench grinder with the above tool cart with those too Couple of vices Nanocom Defender ARB bumper found on facebook Td5/Puma Seatbox + floor plates Set of corner weight scales (half birthday) Passenger side Puma door to match the other one Add to that the fast food whilst on the way to or from work 'because I can' got expensive too. Snackcidents + being a perpetually hungry fatty makes for an expensive life! That was the biggest saving in the first lockdown, not going for a fry=up and multiple coffees each day. Lockdown 3 got the most expensive mind... New Genuine post '02 type rear door Optimill rear door hinges New 315A ACDC TIG to replace my DC only set Custom 1000x1000 fixture welding bench + 2x 1000x500 wings to be able to make it up to 2000x1000. + Various tooling Think that's it for the moment that I can think of! On the one hand I'm spending less on eating out and trips etc and get more revenue as I can spend more time in the Workshop working for customers. That does mean I've been looking more and more for something to spend it on. Went to see a TVR but hesitated too long. Seriously considered bidding on an Esprit St Tropez (very rare convertible version). Just last Saurday I testdrove a Jaaaaaag XJ-S but again hesitating because of a few issues. Every time I'm in a boring meeting I start to browse the classifieds. That was bound to go wrong sooner rather than later! Yesterday evening, nothing on the telly, having already put in my time in the garden and in the Workshop, what else is a man to do but look at some more ads? So I came across an auction with just 21min left for something that has been on my list for a long time. The highest bid was ridiculously low, not even half of the bottom estimate. So I quickly made an account and put in a bid. Only to be informed the reserve was not met. I didn't want to go too crazy for a car I hadn't seen, so managed to restrain myself as the clock counted down. Not without effort I might add. No other bids, auction closed and lot not sold as reserve not met. 10 seconds later my phone rings... A mate who wants to buy a holiday home and wanted me to help him finance it. Why not I thought, it's not like I'm buying cars, I let a TVR and and Esprit St Tropez get away and now this, so a deal was quickly struck. When I turned my attention back to the screen, I noticed I had an email from the auction site. Not unexpectedly, they were offering me the car, even though my offer didn't meet the reserve. Hell yeah! 🙂 So now I'm the proud owner of 'Suzanna', a 1986 Jaguar XJ-SC V12. I've always wanted a Jaaag. And a V12. And a convertible for the summer. And all that at a price I'm guaranteed to get back. She even just passed MOT in January. Collection still needs to be arranged, hopefully this weekend so I can go out and enjoy the sun. We're doubling the office floor space, getting a few LR's back on the road and awaiting the verdict on the Santa Fe. Not to mention the Mrs. going away with the horses and truck a lot. Jaags....... have a very good friend in Holland who has been into them for 40 years + and the junk to show it. Shared my workshop with hm for decades - usually me towing trailers with very dead Jags from all over Europe behind Series LR's... If they run, they are nice. If they don't..... I would love to make some of these regrettable late night auction buys but all the cash goes into the 90. It's just as well, I love Jags and unlike LRs, they are cheap enough to end up with too many. Selling my XK8 this summer, missed the opportunity last year so I want this to be someone else's late night spontaneous alcohol-fueled auction buying story. Well, not quite, the Workshop is still too full to be comfortable and I still have a Range Rover to finish. But as the Jag is proving reliable and very enjoyable, I just couldn't resist adding something a bit more challenging: Trailered home because the seller couldn't get it to start... It's in fact the same car I went to see in January. Back then it was in better shape, in a warm garage and would start up at the first attempt. I still don't understand why we never got the chance to go back for a testdrive and to close the deal. She was sold as part of a lot and spent a couple of months outside before being advertised again. Price was reduced accordingly, but I feel more like I've saved her rather than bought. Spent the better part of the weekend working on her, mainly the ignition system, which was to be expected as everything pointed to a problem with the fuel system. Yesterday I got her started and out for a little spin. 🙂 And then proceeded to take out the old alarm and a bunch of unused wiring (adding lightness), only to find I was a bit overzealous and was back to non-starting... Easy enough to fix but she's proving to be a bit of a challenge indeed! Couple of problems with (me) doing a build thread: - I don't really have the patience to do a proper one (unlike @Shackleton) - I always forget to take picture - haven't found a TVR forum I like yet, I'm spoiled between LR4x4 and TheLotusForums. I joined a Jaguar one (for the XJS-C) but it couldn't live up to the expectations so after a week or so I stopped visiting. Yesterday @elbekko came over and we went through the wiring some more, managed to trace some important ignition wires and remove some more added stuff. It's starting to look like the car had a different ignition module with its own loom at some point, now back to standard.
