western
For vibration damping on Discovery to make it more car like, never used on Defender models.

Bowie69
Yup, and on late RRCs. Discard it, no benefit!
Tim2809
Harmonic balancer. As disco is heavier i suspect its to do with the weight as defender never had them.

It’s more to do with the entire NVH package that a Disco/RR has over a Defender. Lots of little things can make for a more refined vehicle. Northwards
Funnily enough, I noticed that the one on my P38 rear axle is looking a bit worse for wear - the retaining cable has disintegrated. But it did get me wondering whether or not they would have any material impact on a 110's road manners? I can see that it's got potential to get knocked or damaged if off-road, but on the other hand if you're underneath temporarily removing an anti-roll bar for an off-road trip, then a couple of bolts for a harmonic damper wouldn't be a great hassle. Are they likely to do anything noticeable on a 110, or is the vehicle just not heavy enough? Idle curiosity on my part most likely.
Bowie69
When removing my RRC one I never noticed the difference.
elbekko
I definitely noticed the difference on my P38, many years ago. As most people do, I took them off so they wouldn't get hit off-road. But using the car as a daily there was always a slight vibration, that was then solved by refitting the counterbalance.
