Granty
Morning all, Removed diffs from axles and want to replace the oil seals on both before painting and refitting. Can I just replace the oil seals only or will I have to re shim the diffs? Both are looking to be in good condition with no play or apparent wear. Never done one before so not sure. Thanks Granty Edited May 16, 2021 by Granty Spelling
Snagger
No need to worry about bearing preloads - they would only change if you altered the shims or replaced the pinion or perhaps bearings (they’d have to be differences spec than the existing set). You can just remove the drive flange, replace the seal and refit without any concern about the preload. It’s notionally different with a Salisbury axle, where the preload is set by the position of the nut on the pinion squeezing a crushable spacer the more you turn it, but you don’t need to think about those axles for a RR.
