I was disassembling done doors, taking off the tops, and the stud that ties the two together came out of the aluminium housing instead of the nut coming off.

Take a good look at the stud.....

Ah, the other one has a snapped bolt in it already. I think that should suffice, I hope.

What's the acid that eats steel but not aluminium?

Yes, I know a little bit about Galvani and the cells, but there an actual acid that might eat the steel out of the aluminium for me. Rather than me drilling/welding/tapping the remainder of that stud out.

Apologies, I misunderstood the question.

You'll probably have to go mandraulic on the removal of the bits, with copious use of a good penetrant oil to assist.
