GlennYoung33
Hello all just joined site, just bought a Discovery 3 2.7 V6 TD on a 2007 plate. It has already had the EGR blanking done and worked ok for a few weeks. However today on accelerating hard, auto gear box kicks down and it goes into limp mode, lower suspension, lights on on dash etc. I stop switch off and ready to go again with no issues. I read a few posts about the Break switch ( new one on order) rear break bulbs ( also on order) the cable joint under carpet need to look at, and to check the turbo actuator not yet done, also read about MAP sensor issue. I will be starting the problem solving tomorrow, but wanted some feedback, this only happens when car moving, if I rev up engine on stop then no issue, does not go into limp mode. Any ideas on why it only happens when car under load moving. The steps I was going to try : 1. Change rear bulbs. 2. Change Break Switch. 3. Clean MAP sensor if dirty. 4. Check red wires joint under carpet. 5. check turbo actuator moving. 6. check for splits in turbo pipes. Any other ideas or pointers would be most welcome, this is currently a pain when trying to overtake, very dangerous. I am borrowing a friends Icarsoft scanning tool to see what codes come up. Cheers Glenn
Arjan
Hi Glenn, welcome to the Madhouse. Like with most modern cars - but certainly the D3 & D4 - you really need to get it to talk to a computer. Otherwise it is basically a wild goose chase.
missingsid
Hi Glenn, Welcome, I had to sell my D3 due to the last year. My whole family misses it still including me. They are a great car but need to be loved as they can be expensive to fix if neglected. The engine cooling system has some plastic items that crumble to dust and Ford used Chineese cheese for the bolts everywhere. If you have a front sunroof then check for wet front floors as the rubber in the drains crumble and the body sills fills with water corroding some important electrical connectors in them. Good news, they are a great car and handle incredibly well for a near 3 ton car with good quality tyres. Hope you resolve your problem and enjoy ownership. PS. I have a Nanocom Evo for a D3 for sale on another forum. I can put it for sale on this forum if there is interest.
GlennYoung33
Thanks Arjan / Missingsid for replies, I managed to get hold of a Icarsoft Max tester and it came back with P2290 (Injector control pressure too low) I have checked Map and Maf, and after cleaning it has got better, have to push accelerator much harder to trip into limp mode. However problem still there still there, so was going to check Low fuel pressure next to ensure LP fuel pump is working correctly, I have also just ordered new fuel filter ( original). Watch this space, will still replace break switch and bulbs when they arrive at least can then also rule them out.

dom090
Same problems I have been having was there a resolution to your problem?
reb78
Check the brake light bulbs and if good replace the brake light switch. They are cheap enough and commonly cause the symptoms. If that doesnt fix it you have a spare for when it does fail (and it will).
