New 4 bolt Power steering box not working

Recommended Posts

Hi ,can any one advise me on what might be wrong with the power steering box on my defender? The old box was very slack with about 7 inches of free play from loch to lock before the wheels moved so I fitted a recon box ,Took  it for a test drive and every thing was fine for about 150 km and now the steering is back to how it was befor, I’ve checked the oil level and all the bolts etc and all seems to be fine ,what have I done wrong?

PAS boxes don't tend to give you that much slop, suspect as above, that something else has failed, or has come loose.

Check the column linkage (all the bits, not just the bit by the box), and that the drop arm is sufficiently tight -they do have a habit of coming loose if not tightened up properly, and the lock washer being present.

Then check the joints on your drag link and track rod.

If it all checks out, check your wheel alignment, massive toe out can behave like this... a bit.
