Cchase
These spacers are on my series 3 109" frame to hold the bump stops. Are they a specific item for military frames or a regular item on 109 frames? Are they necessary if they are not on regular 109 frames? Thanks, Colin
Gazzar
They extend the bump stops for vehicles with longer than standard shackles, like the one tonne vehicles and some military vehicles. They can be removed if you have standard shackles and springs. Or you are willing to risk the springs doing weird things ( braking for multi-leaf springs) under extreme articulation. Gazzar
You should have extended spring mounts on the chassis to match the extended shackles. A photo of the front dumb iron would confirm.
Cchase
Front dumb iron and shackle from rear of front spring. So I guess I could go shorter shackle on the back and upper hole on the front if I wanted to delete the spacers. Would that be a step backward? Thanks. Snagger
If you don’t have those bump stop extenders, then the dampers could be damaged by over compression. Some modern dampers now have internal stops, so it would be less critical, but I’d still recommend keeping them. On a 1-Ton, they would also help prevent the 9.00 tyres from contacting body panels. Gazzar
I'd keep them. They aren't expensive.

Snagger
Using the upper holes and standard shackles would give you a ride heigh a little above a standard 109 if you retain the parabolics - they typically raise a vehicle by 1-2” at the front and 2-3” at the rear , but that does vary with brand and vehicle weight. The 1-Ton system will raise it another 1.5” or so. You can use the same springs either way. Which is best depends on your own circumstances. The lower height is easier to load or enter and is probably slightly easier to find parts like dampers and brake lines for. The taller arrangement gives more ground clearance and allows taller tyres (be wary of over gearing the engine), but can also make parking more restricted where there are height restrictions.
