Door hinges

Recommended Posts

Tinkered around with new door hinges.

They are now nicely galvanised. The difference to the old hinges is that they have now drilled the inner part bigger and put in a flanged bush from above and below.

I see that as a real advantage, because in the old ones the hole was the same size all the way through. That means there was actually no space for grease anywhere. Now there is room for grease in the cavity of the middle part between the two flanged bushings.

The problem is, you can't get at it because there's no grease facility provided and that the Brit (or whoever) immediately devalued the immaculate things because he assembled them bone dry.

So I removed the hinge pin and drilled a hole transversely so that grease could be pressed into it. Since no grease nipple works, because it shears off again when the door is opened, I simply inserted a short grub screw to close the hole again after lubrication.
