slihp
Was reversing up a hill today and suddenly everything locked up. Could not move the gear stick or transfer stick, engine was running fine with the clutch in but then just shudders when you bring it out. I was initially thinking the gearbox/transfer box. When the recovery guy came he some how managed to get the stick unstuck and could drive it in 4 wheel drive and could reverse. Its away to the garage now but he was thinking it was more likely to be related to one of the front swivels. What you guys think?
Bowie69
Where you driving it with the centre difflock in and turning a corner on hard standing?
slihp
no, was just in normal 2 wheel drive and was reversing up a hill. Once he managed to unlock it he put it into 4 wheel drive.
Chicken Drumstick
No 2wd on a Defender. Just a lockable centre differential. Could be many things that could lock the drivetrain up.
slihp
Dont I feel stupid, dose the fact that it started driving point away from gearbox issue you think.
Chicken Drumstick
Could be. But it’s hard to say without having a good look around. I had a rear brake calliper shear a mounting flange. That pretty much stopped my Land Rover moving.
Snagger
Check the hand brake is disengaging and that the diff lock is working correctly. If they’re alright, you need to check the wheels, half shafts and diffs.
