tuko
I'm at the point of installing the door tops on the Defender but the glass rattles too much in place so I've decided to replace the felts. So of course googling the interweb I found that you can upgrade to rubber U profiles (Outfitters Door Top Kits) in the glass channels but the prices I found were beyond a reasonable figure for what it is. (my opinion) Anyways it got me thinking that it's got be done on the cheap and basically with the same material. I did find U-profile rubber, plus U-profile rubber (EPDM) with felt lining with nearly similar dimensions to the channel openings in the door tops. The window channels in the door tops are approx 12mm deep, 7.5~8mm wide at the lip which then is approx 10mm wide inside the channel. The price difference is basically day and night, I can actually order 5 meters of each above for less than the kits. It has be to asked, knowing the inventiveness of many here, has anyone taken the alternative route but using a similar cheaper product to replace their worn window felts? Would rubber be a better alternative? Thanks in advance, Todd.
Chicken Drumstick
I did this last year. There is an official part number, but I used this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224144606416 A U channel I think would be maybe be difficult to install, as you have to slide the window back and forth.
tuko
@Chicken Drumstick Felt covered rubber, that looks the dog's dangle, how has it held up and is there any rattles after a years use? I see that the price on their homepage is considerably cheaper the eBlag.

miketomcat
I got some from Woolies it just pushes in and stays there due to the small lip on the channel. Mike

Mike @miketomcat your referring to the C channel that I mentioned, it's the only thing I could find on their homepage?
Snagger
I used the channel from Woollies a while back and it worked a treat. Just don’t do the corners with them as they pucker on the sides and will jam the window. Best to do just the straight sections and use the old felt for the corners.
miketomcat
From memory without measuring I think it was this one. https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1649-small-window-channel Mike
