Long nose or short nose diff ?

Goedemiddag,

For a project I was asked if a differential was a "short nose" or a "long nose" ?

Not heard diffs described that way before.

- what are they ?

- what is the difference ?

- how to tell them apart ?

Short nose are the rear diffs fitted in the later type 110/130 rear axles as well as the P38 (not sure about a P38 front?)

Long nose is your normal D1/D2/RRC/90/110 Front diff.

As for differences... they have a different bolt pattern where they bolt up to the axle case. Not sure of the actual length difference, but side by side they're obviously different.

Now it is time to find out what other parts are needed to dress this axle casing up into a functioning rear axle.
