Singr07
Hi I checked the front Shaft in my Defender and it was almost knackered. Uj’s bearing were broken and Uj was hitting onto the spline holes. On the transmission side, Propshaft was hitting onto its bolt and these were rounded. I’ve also noticed that these bolt couldn’t be taken out as there was not enough space between the flange and transfer box casing. So I have cut these bolts out with a grinder. Would there would be any issue if I put the nuts and bolts other way around? Nuts facing the transfer box. Please check the picture attached and advise accordingly. western
To replace the 4 flange to prop bolts mark the big nut & diff pinion shaft with paint, remove the big nut & remove the flange, then fit 4 new bolts & retorque the big nut so it ends up with the paint marks realigned. You can't fit the 4 bolt the other way round as there is not enough space for the nuts they will foul on the diff case.

But park on a hill or drain the transfer box oil first or you'll have a large puddle that smells bad. Mike
Singr07
Thanks for your advice lads, I think that’s the right way it should have been done. but I didn’t wanted to disturb that big nut and seals underneath. So I fitted the bolts other way around, drove the Landy and rechecked all the bolts. None of the bolt is rubbing onto anything and still there is about 5-10mm space between the bolts and the Transfer Box as in this picture after the completion.
