Ymanda
I would like to fit 2 x bench seats in the back of my Defender. Only problem is, the metal platforms on either side where they would be fitted have a slope to them. Any thoughts on how I can fit these without having to botch it with additional wood/metal supports. I was looking at the lwb seats on the JGS4x4 site Cheers
western
What year is the vehicle? Guessing it's a Ford engine vehicle with the stepped rear arches, the side facing bench seats were not fitted to these vehicles due to EURO/UK law changes.
Snagger
That is what I thought. Post 2007 model (Puma/TDCI). I’m not quite sure, but I think it’d be illegal to fit benches to that car, unless they were only for use when parked. If you can legally fit them, then a sheet of 3mm alloy from your local BACO supplier binder or riveted over the void would do the job. You’d want it folded to form the front of the void too for stiffness, or could attach a length of angle extrusion. I have no idea if the inside face of the tub capping and trim panels allow for bench seat back fixings like the earlier models did, so you may have to be creative and make your own brackets, or perhaps drill the flat face for bolt holes.
