Proper stupid question I think. Crossmember

Recommended Posts

Um. I think I'm going to regret this. I am (as some of you will know) transferring a V8 into my 110, which currently has a snorting, snarling 12J in it.

I know I need to frig about with engine mounts, and I have just discovered from another thread that I'll need to get some gearbox/TF bob mounts as well.

But do I need a different crossmember? Even if I go down the Frankenpipe route for an exhaust?

Oh, and talking of exhausts. The manifolds on my 3.9 at the moment are horrible but original. Any suggestions as to a sensible exhaust choice? Not too offensively loud, but I don't mind a bit of V8 burble...

Thanks,

SB

3.9 cast manifolds are reckoned to be pretty good TBH, use RRC downpipes & Y piece and it gets you very close if not bang on to joining up with a stock Defender exhaust system.

If you check out our ambulance thread in the members' vehicles section there's pics in there somewhere of the setup with standard x-member & back section.

Oh that's good news, thanks. One less thing to worry about...

Any idea on the cross member?

(Edit - I'm being thick aren't I? Stock exhaust means current crossmember, doesn't it...)

There's also a lot of useful info here - I'm just in the process of trying to figure out which way to go on my 1987 110.....

Once I have my engine and boxes back in I'd planned to buy:
