Aleister
Hi. I just collected a converted pulse ambulance. The vehicle has been converted to 12v electrics. On the drive home I noticed a small amount of condensation on the glass of the water temperature gauge. I went to wipe it off and in doing so noted that the bezel of the gauge was very hot. It was raining and I had the headlights and wipers on. I continued to monitor the temperature of the gauge and noted that when the lights were turned off the gauge cooled right back down. Anyone got a clue as to the cause? The actual gauge was hot not the water temp. Cheers Aleister
western
Check the bulb in the gauge it should be 1.2watt, any bigger & the tube it sits in melts, You could swap to led illumination in the gauges as led operate much cooler.
landroversforever
Is it the standard gauge?
Troll Hunter
Is it the old gremlin of a bad earth on your headlights and the current is finding a path to earth through the case of your water temperature gauge? The clue is that the gauge body cooled when the headlights were switched off. Try removing a headlamp bulb and measuring the resistance from the bulb socket earth to the battery negative post. It should be very low. Mike
