Emma Stanger
Morning all, the rear fog light was broken so i have replaced this and wired per the existing lamp (which i never saw operating). when the ignition key is in and the side or headlights are on the fog lamp comes on. Toggling the fog lamp stick on the right of the steering wheel does not turn the lamp on or off, although it does turn the dash fog light indicator on/off. has it been wired to the running lights/break lights incorrectly? also the wiring is a mess… does anyone know of a good way to organise wiring/connections etc for the rear lights? western
Should be wired to the red/yellow trace wire & a plain black Red/yellow is 12v from the switch Plain black is earth. Check the rear fog inhibit relay is operating as well, it should stop the fog light coming on if main beam is used IIRC.
steve b
Also check the earth points for the rear lights as a weak earth will cause other lights to glow separate from the circuit that is on . It's a very common problem with Land Rover electric's ... Steve
landroversforever
Also worth asking.... is it a standard type with a normal lamp, or is it an LED version?

Why would the rear fog be extinguished if headlamps are on high beam? I can understand it for front fog lights but not for the rear fog lights. western
If visibility is good enough for high/main beam headlights then having the rear fog on would just increase glare for following drivers.

Mike It's a legal requirement - gives at least a sporting chance of the plumb driving along with his/her rear fogs permanently on to notice that an extra warning light appears.disappears on the dash... Oh yeah, and what Western said, too.
Troll Hunter
Thanks, western. That makes sense, and I've now modified my re-wire design accordingly. Mike
