To my mind there are two possible ways of reading that comment: 1. It's uncanny how they have managed to match a Land Rover to the Chinook. 2. It's uncanny how these retailers find people with so much more money than sense to pay for figments of imagination, that look as though they have boon possibly fuelled by an excess of alcohol, and / or 'Columbian marching powder'. Popular Post Snagger
Inspired by Chinook - noisy, heavy vibration, uncomfortable, cold in winter, old technology but exceptionally iconic and well suited to their roles…. The parallels are already there. 4

I'm a big fan of the Chinook, but apart from a military tint of green and some webbing that doesn't seem to practical, I don't see any link. It's just another overpriced customised Chelsea tractor, miles away from a proper Defender. Id I'm not mistaken, they've even left out the transfer box (I don't see the second shifter). Probably just threw in some autobox, don't need low gear 'cause it will never go off pavement anyway.

It's got this so no transfer box 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder from a Ford Mustang that sends 307 horsepower through a bolstered six-speed transmission. Escape
I'm sure they could have fitted an LT230 to that 6-speed if they had wanted to.
jeremy996
Autocar say it is four wheel drive, https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/one-land-rover-defender-pays-tribute-raf-chinook, LRM said much the same, https://www.landrovermonthly.co.uk/articles/news/chinook-defender/, so I guess it's the four pot Mustang engine and the usual transfer box. It sold at Bonham's Goodwood Revival, raising funds for for RAFA, said to be $154,000, https://www.hotcars.com/this-chinook-inspired-defender-couldve-been-yours/, https://rafa.org.uk/blog/2022/07/05/chinook-inspired-land-rover/ Edited November 9, 2022 by jeremy996 More stuff esp. Bowie69
Probably quite a well matched engine, to be fair.
Daan
Inspired by a chinook, right?: the only similarity I can see is that both have 4 wheels.
western
& both a green 🤢

My main comment was that I don't see a shifter for the transfer box, as in a Defender. Could be electrical I suppose, but I wouldn't bet on it. Fair play if it was built for a RAFA auction, that certainly is a worthy cause. And would warrant some of the choices made, aimed at hose with deep pockets but not necessarily planning on actually driving/using it. Snagger
I still haven’t seen the inside, but I don’t like the red windscreen hinges. The rest of the exterior looks ok. Nothing especially Chinook-like about it…
mad_pete
If it’s a charity thing then that’s fine. Makes for a taking point which is probably half the reason.
