Happyoldgit
Nothing new with Land Rovers, or bits of them getting knocked but I thought I’d fly this article I found in my Shooting Times & Country Magazine earlier this month…
smallfry
Would be nice to get a breakdown of the figures. I would assume that the vast majority of these will be high end more modern models, stolen to order and/or export. Would be nice to see how my scrappy old Defender figures in the scheme of things, now that values seem to be falling.
L19MUD
I used to get picked up for work to go to the airport frequently and one of the drivers was ex police. He spent the last few years as part of a specialist team trying to stop stolen vehicles being shipped out of Felixstowe docks. The last year he worked in that team they stopped £20m of vehicles from exiting the country. That obviously begs the question of how many went out and not detected. He said the majority of the vehicles going out were Range Rovers and that a lot of them were stolen from posh areas of London, the volume of Range Rovers in that area being so great that thieves could literally steal the exact colour and spec that wanted. He then went on to say that the feeling in the police was that a lot of them were being shipped to places in the world where the roads were poor/non existent and therefore demand for a Range Rover was always going to be much higher than a sports car/saloon Whilst my information is now 4-5 years out of date I think a lot of the above still applies and has extended to the rest of the range
Snagger
This has been the case for decades. It’s all highly organised and most of the stolen cars go to south east Europe.
Gazzar
Yes, everyone benefits, more cars sold, insurance premiums go up, crime numbers go up. All good. Unless you just work for a living.
Bowie69
More demand for cars locally when they get stolen, and much fewer opportunities for them to go horrifically wrong while still under warranty. JLR must be laughing.
