Troll Hunter
Vehicle is a 1991 110CSW originally with a V8 and LT77S gearbox but now with a 300Tdi and R380 Hi, All, Please have patience with a senior whose memory is failing (that's optimistic!). Not only is my memory failing but my carefully attached labels, some 7 years ago, appear to have gone for a walk, presumably fed-up with their bits not being refitted. The section of pipe with two banjo fittings is obviously shaped to fit exactly, but where? The pipe with a single fitting as a part of a steel elbow, it is magnetic, appears to have been cut off, so I have no idea what the required length should be. I'm assuming that both sections would have carried a fluid. I've scoured the LR Parts Catalogue looking at details associated with brakes, clutch, air vents from axles, gear and transfer boxes, the turbo output and diesel spillback, but cannot find anything that even closely matches these bits. On p. 337 the gearbox parts list includes items 27, 28 and 29, but none of them appear in the diagram, which is a pity since part 29, FRC9430 is labelled "Breather assembly - V8 and Tdi". Reviewing the Overhaul manual for the LT230T t/box there appears to be no mention of any vent facility or connection although I already have vents from the High/Low cross shaft housing and from almost vertically below the t/box gear lever. The connections between the turbo output and the FIP are in place, as are the injector spill back line, the vents already mentioned, that come up the bulkhead and both differential vents. Also, I have failed to find any banjo bolts that need connections. The longer pipe, from top left, is about 2" before the first bend, then 12" on the main straight with 5" after the second bend and finishing with 3" to the second banjo fitting. The banjo fittings are 12mm at the top and 14mm at the bottom. The second pipe, of indeterminate original length, has a 12mm fitting. The short section between bends below the elbow are both about 2". If anybody can identify where these sections should be fitted I'll be eternally grateful. I hate having bits left over when I reassemble something, although it's not an uncommon situation! Memory again? Although reassembled parts generally perform as required. Paul C
Look like fuel pipes. Was the engine from a Defender or a discovery? Edited September 5 by Paul C
miketomcat
Fuel from filter to injection pump and return from injection pump the tail from the bottom one is from the spill rail. Mike
Snagger
I’m I suffering extreme Deja-vu, or did we have a similar discussion about six months ago? The pipe running near vertically in the photo is the end of the spill rail system, it’s banjo connecting to the back of the injection pump (horizontal bolt, iirc), the bottom end running back to the tank and the top end with the wider hose connecting to the no.4 injector spill rail banjo. The other pipe looks like it runs from fuel filter to injection pump inlet (top of the pump).
simonpelly
@Snagger Similar deja vu for me too. Fuel lines as you state.
Troll Hunter
I have to sadly confirm my total loss of memory😢. I also had a deja vu moment wring my OP, and even looked to see if I had actually asked about these pipes or had merely intended to ask. And yesterday I found my original post. You were right on the button, Snagger. It was 5th March 2024 that I originally asked. I still don't know why I have these pipes because I never removed any fuel pipes from my engine, and all the pipes are there as originally installed in 2005. They are a complete mystery, but I'll now label them, so that I won't need to ask about them in another 6 months! Many thanks for your replies and your patience with a crumbly, and I apologise for wasting your time. Mike
Sigi_H
Replace the tubes anyway with a huge effort to get in trouble then and you will never forget your asking again 🤣
Sigi_H
I forgot something as well. When changing the tubes, drop down inlet AND outlet screws of the FIP. You will have to search them for long time. Then interchange them please. This is a reliable way to get into unforgettable trouble. 8 hours ago, Troll Hunter said: I have to sadly confirm my total loss of memory😢. Thank you in any case for the proof that I'm not the only one 😇
Troll Hunter
I'm short of two fingers on my left hand, index and middle, so frequently suffer from dropsy, so trouble from dropping screws wouldn't stick in my memory 'cos I drop 'em so often! I am multi-talented though, I also drop nuts, frequently drop washers, and occasionally bolts. Anyway, thank you for your recommendations regarding changing my existing pipes and will attempt not to drop critical mounting components. steve b
Mike, Be assured there are many on here that walk across the workshop for something and then don't know why......been doing it for a long time , only a few weeks ago I spent a good while clearing the bench looking for a sub-mount (RHS engine mount on a S2a) .......could not find it so ordered and fitted a new one, guess what? Found it on the bench about a week after fitting the new one. ...I also have about 5 telescopic mag sticks, the biggest will collect 15kg, just enjoy the journey Steve
Sigi_H
Just a hint: I am photographing all those stuff in boxes, drawers and so on ... I saved a lot of time searching for things I forgot My brain went into my cell phone 🫣 One`s allowed to be stupid. You just have to know how to help yourself. Peaklander
Forgetfulness is all around. The older one gets, the more one notices it. Eventually. Last winter I bought one of those bilberry picking comb devices that you pull through the berries and magic happens. My wife couldn’t understand why I wanted it then, after the end of the Bilberry season. I had borrowed one and simply wanted to be ready this year. It came in an unmarked brown cardboard box, probably in February so I put it away. Safely. The season finished a few weeks ago but I still can’t find it. 🤷♂️

JeffR
"Safely", yup thats a word that strikes terror into my heart and makes my wallet cringe. We've recently been expecting builders (who seem to work in an alternative time zone / reality) so loads of stuff got put away "safely". I guess between put away safely and the sock pixies thats the last I'll see of said stuff until moments after its replacement arrives when it will suddenly and magically re-appear from whatever quantum existence its been hiding in....
