Hi , I did search before asking this , is the actually any difference between the “early” switches PRC3875 and the later STC 439 , both have the black/round pin connectors rather than the white plastic spade connectors if the later TD5 one ? Thanks for any information you can

As far as I am aware they should be interchangeable, with no difference i.e. if its got a black plug then they are all the same type - they didn't change any of the wiring to the switches. Like you've already pointed out the later type had a different connect (white) for late ROW 300tdi's and Td5's.

From memory you can fit an intermittent wiper unit on the earlier mount.

I believe that the mountings are the same for both early column switches (as well as for the late 300Tdi/TD5/Puma type with the Sumitomo 6-way connector).

The wiring for the intermittent function isn't present on earlier vehicles - but can be added by using the later column switch with link harness PRC8295 and the intermittent wiper relay AMR2341.

PRC8295 is no longer available from Land Rover - however, Autosparks make a replacement - https://www.autosparks.co.uk/land-rover-defender-90-110-intermittent-wiper-wiring-harness
