New Challenge Event - Tay Trophy

Recommended Posts

For any serious challengers out there, a new event is to be born in Scotland based on an endurance event over 5 days in May. The closing date for entries is Friday 9th March. This will be a fantastic event, details taken from here

Main info below:

Hi All,

Event details update.

The 20 teams will be split up into groups of 5 teams x 4.

Each group will be escorted to a different site every day.

On arrival the groups will find a number of sections numbered 1 - to - 6 or 7.

Each team will do the sections clockwise, by number, with the lowest team number starting at section 1, moving through the section throughout the day.

Punches will be situated within each section - no secrets, no navigation, no GPS!

The Tay Trophy, being a five day event will, I believe, be more of an endurance event rather than an out and out blast from start to finish - I think the secret of this one will be pacing your level of attack & aggression.

Also, because of the length of the event, I feel sure that if there are any breakdowns that would normally exclude you from finishing, there will be the opportunity to complete fairly major repairs and rejoin the event.

So, I you miss a day due to mechanical problems you will still be sure of a four day finishing score!

This will be the format for Thursday, Friday, Sunday & Monday.

Saturday will be something quite different, with the points awarded contributing to the overall event scores.

However, there will be an additional trophy for the Saturday lunacy!

This Trophy has been very kindly donated by BORDC, Scotland.

Plans are also well advanced for the Sat-hoolie extravaganza!

Two of the sites have already been laid out, with the level of difficulty set at about 50/60% of an AFC section.

The sections are also quite a bit longer, with much more driving than winching compared to the AFC.

Please visit the Tay Trophy website - http://www.taytrophy.org.uk , after tomorrow when it will be updated with pictures taken during last weekends setting up session.

Andy Thomlinson.

Lets hope it goes ahead.

What happened on Friday Pete, saw you and Bryn messing with a tyre, was it terminal or did something else give. Hope you had a chance to give the new mods some testing.

OHH were to start

Steering - put it this way full hydro almost fitted on front as well no

Snapped 2 cables - someone didnt cut out the roller slot big enough <_<

Lockers didnt engage properly - got them working at lunch time & then the {welded temporary front shaft} snapped oops

Rear steer - Brilliant just got to tweek the pressure up a bit :D

New axles - geometery /articulation , well you could put another 42 on top when fully stretched .just need to change the spring rate on coil overs .New springs turned up as we left the work shop

New twin 8274 housing - Seemed to be less powerful .Was it no front wheel drive or the extra weight????? Or i the new housing sapping power ???

As to the rear tyre - In a gully a rock sheared off the valve protector & valve thus twisting the tyre up in a knot around the split rim . We had to split it & fit a new valve :angry::angry::angry:

Other than that wasnt impressed with the site  Poxy little wood by the side of a road 350 miles away  could of done that 2 miles down the road .

3 days of self sufficient offroad etc. Being allowed to go to the petrol station & chip shop at night kind of defeated the object really

So anyway with all the bits wrong on its 1st trip out then the front shafts breaking we went home for a weekend with the kids :D & got some brownie points so i could do TAY without getting to much S**T { that plan went s**t up then}

Glad you all had a good weekend though . Just too soon for my truck & from what i can make out it turned into a bit of a COR event nothing like last year by all accounts .

Justin has the new housing and it seemed slower, not necessarily underpowered. After using Wills winch all day, Justins just seemed slower!!

I bought light weight food and a minimum of this and that, went to the chippy and had the lightweight mush for breakfast, that was a surprise to be allowed to use the towns facilities.

I didnt enjoy the quizz at the start of Saturday, I had no idea of how to answer a few of the questions so that made us very late starting the navigation. I have no idea on navigation but intend to brush up the that though.
