HoSS
Since doing the auto box conversion on the V8 3.5, I have had a clicky/knock sound in time with engine revs & louder the more load/pedal is applied. doesn;t do it if reved in neutral. I know since the conversion i have picked up a bit of a shudder as the revs drop below 1500 in neutral, so the drive plate is prob not in perfect balance. I can't se how this is the autobox, would they make that kind of noise? (bear in mind its a 'new' ashcroft rebuild) But i'm begining to wonder if a main / big end bearing problem is coming on? any ideas?
Bull Bar Cowboy
Sounds more like a hydraulic lifter that has expired or got some sh!t in it ………… These guys will make real loud worrying noises if not pumped up. What is the oil pressure like ? BTW: the bottom end on the V8 is fairly bomb proof ……….. but the top end wears real bad and this is hidden by virtue of the design …………. Ian It had new (genuine) cam shaft, lifters & chain about 500km ago. I did have an issue with low oil pressure when warm, but have just fitted a new pump base & the pressure is about 30-50 psi now. Also i suspect the cam area stuuf would make noise with any load level?
Bull Bar Cowboy
With 30psi oil pressure on a hot engine it is very doubtful that the mains and big ends are worn to the point of knocking...............if this was not happening before the g/box change, then it maybe the torque converter / flex plate may be the culprit. Do you still need a fuel / spark map ? ............. ping me an email Ian

My fuel map is pretty good now. I invested in the Innovate wide band O2 sensor, tuned up nicely. Spark map, i need. Did a lot of research & then got very confused about what is right PMd u my email, cheers.
Anglo-Frenchman
I recall having a similar problem when I converted my V8 to an autobox and it turned out that one of the crank shaft fixing studs had worked loose inside the torque converter. Mine made a hell of a racket so I don't know if it's exactly the same as you are experiencing but perhaps something worth considering. I can post my spark map up this evening if it's any use? I think it's fairly safe and from what i understand roughly matches the stock distributor advance. Am running the Innovate wide band too (recently fitted it) I'd be interested in your target AFR map if you have it, can post my guess at it too. Can I check with the mods if it's acceptable (within forum rules) to upload exported table files or the MSQ as an attachment? Cheers

TomG
Here's my current settings: Fraid the forum editor wouldn't let me upload the .vex files (file type not allowed)
FridgeFreezer
If you open the .VEX file in Notepad and just copy/paste into a post you can do the reverse at the other end and save as .VEX, they are just stored as text IIRC. Would be good to get a collection of fuel & spark maps for landies here.
