bluboy
I own a 96 300tdi Would someone please tell me what this is? I found it on top of the engine block when I took the rubber cover off. The tube leading to the connector has a crack in it. Do I need to replace it. What does it do?
RRX
Temperature sensor i think, part of the egr system to tell it when the engine is up to temp

JimAttrill
Non-egr engines just have a bolt in there. It is a handy place to fit another thermocouple if required.
Les Henson
The 'tube' you mention is just the shroud of the wire. No need to replace it, a bit of insulating tape would be a good repair. Les.
