rekab69
Hi, me again.... I have a TD5 110, bought as a salvage/repair job, seemed a cheaper option for me to own a great tool. The rear off side wheel is sitting about 1 1/2" back. Meassured wheel centers off side and near side.. I have come to think that the axle housing is bent.. It has been hit in the rear wheel, is it possible to bend the short side of one of these axles...? Is the outside tube just a push fit into the diff housing...? The wheel still spins freely when jacked up. (rear prop is removed) Options if it's bent.. 1. have it rebuilt by a transmission shop. 2. install a second hand axle...? Would any 110 axle fit or doI need one that has ABS...? Thanks in advance Dave
Diff
Yes, it is possible to bend the axle, but it is more likely that the rear trailing arm is bent on that side, and/or the trailing arm mountings have been damaged. Check these carefully first. The axle tubes are pressed into the housing and then puddle welded through holes in the diff casing as far as I know. A replacement axle is probably the best option if it is bent. You can probably use an earlier disc brake salisbury and transfer the stub axles, ABS hubs and brakes from the bent one. JimAttrill
I agree about the rear trailing arm being bent, this happened to a mate of mine the other day. Try pulling the half shafts out and putting them back in. If the axle is bent this will not be easy at all. I would reckon if they slide in and out the axle is not bent. If you're after a salisbury axle casing, I've got one you can have..noe catch though, I'm in London
