One4adventure
just in the wondering stage, but the prices of discos makes this tempting to try. I am aware the steering box will be in the path of the turbo.....has anyone found a work around? Fabricated exhaust manifold?
RPR
As you have surmised, it will be very tight. Conversion to power steering will help by getting rid of the Series box and moving the steering column outside the chassis rails. I believe new Saginaw boxes are now available and Terri Ann Wakeman has a good write up on that conversion. I used a Toyota Cressida (the model pre Camry) box which also works well. The tech archive on here is extensive and extremely helpful. A search will likely reveal some further info on this conversion. Not to drive traffic away from here, but you may find that your compatriots have some experience with this by checking in on the very active North American board over at LRA. Finally, if all else fails, you may want to check in on Pirate and ask Junkyddog as he does a rather good business in tdi conversions in Maine. Cheers,
