Les Henson
I finally had the new piston delivered yesterday. The old piston has 3 compression rings, and then one oil scraper below them, and at the bottom of the piston, another oil scraper. The new piston comes with 3 compression rings and one oil scraper, plus gudgeon pin and circlips, but no bottom ring, even though the groove is there for it. According to Bearmach (and the parts books), there should only be one oil scraper, and the new piston has just the one. Here's old and new next to each other. I suppose I could put the old oil scraper off the bottom of the old piston onto the new, but is the old piston correct, or the new one? Les. steve_a
When I was doing this I think I had the rings you have already put on and then the bottom ring had a kind of simple wavy band that went in it. I assumed it was to distribute the oil rather than actually do any scraping. However, thinking back the 2 pistons didn't have the final ring, I used the ones from the ring kit I had bought. At least I think so. sorry can't help much more, I don't have any photo's of the work to reference against.
Les Henson
Well as the problem wasn't with worn rings (just busted ones), I used the old bottom ring. It was identical to the oil scraper though, nothing behind it at all. Les.
