landybear
Guys and Gals, Going to look at a 1987 300 90 with all disco running gear tomorrow. As the disco gearbox has been used doesnt this mean the levers are in the wrong place for the 90?? What are the signs to look out for this conversion. Not worried about engine just the rest of the running gear. Back axle has been used from a Disco aswell so will this give it 1.22:1 ratio for the diff?? What will happen to the T-box can the standard def one be used?? Sorry for the noddy questions Many thanks

Sorry for the noddy questions Many thanks The gearlevers will be in the "wrong" place - I would assume that the trans tunnel has been somewhat butchered to get this to fit. The rear axle will have been fitted for the disc brakes that it provides - the diff ratio is the same as the 90 at 3.54:1. If the Disco x-fer box has been used, that will give you the higher final drive of 1.22:1 Overall, providing the fitting has been done properly and to a decent standard, it sounds like it could be worth a look. western
main gear levers have probably been swapped so they sit in the correct location as per Defender. axles are the same ratio/type as later 90 anyway, most likely fitted to get rear disk brakes, transfer box [Discovery] has the 1.22 high ratio & same low ratio as all 90/110/Discovery. if the change has been done well & it all works correctly, it's your call

We'll have to wait and see I guess! Matt
western
The levers could be as per Discovery & it should be a R380 main gearbox.
landybear
Thanks guys for the reply. Yes the gear lever is in the wrong place (inline with transfer lever). Went for a drive beautiful low high and diff lock all good. So fingers crossed we will see what happens. How do you get round the gear situation then with them being opposite to in a disco??
